Riveria study counsellor explored everyday life at Jotwire

Riveria study counsellor Elina Hokkanen spent last week at Jotwire on a work placement, where she had the opportunity to gain practical insight into the kind of work carried out at the company. During the week, she gained experience of the tasks and work environments in which the students she guides may one day find employment. At the same time, the week further strengthened the smooth cooperation between Ouneva Group and Riveria.

Elina has worked as a study counsellor at Riveria for more than 15 years. Her areas of responsibility include electrical and automation engineering, information and communication technology, and the security sector, which made Jotwire a natural choice for her work placement. The company was already familiar to her, and many Riveria students have completed internships and summer jobs there.

A warm and encouraging welcome at Jotwire

According to Elina, the week at Jotwire went by quickly. She says the welcome was warm and the instructors patient and friendly. At the same time, the experience reminded her what it can feel like for a young student to start at a new workplace, and how important good orientation and an encouraging reception are.

“The week has gone by quickly, and I have been received extremely well here. I felt welcome right from the very first day,” Elina says.

During the week, Elina became familiar with Jotwire’s production in a versatile way. She began with orientation and then took part in tasks on the cable side as well as in assembly of electronics and electrical systems. What was particularly meaningful for her was that she was not only observing from the sidelines but was able to make real products herself. At the same time, her understanding deepened that production is not simply about repeating the same task, but about building complete systems through several different stages of work.

“It has been truly valuable to be able to do the work myself rather than just watch from the side. During the week, it has become concrete how multi-stage and responsible factory work is, and how much expertise lies behind it,” Elina summarizes her experience of the week.

Cooperation benefits students and Ouneva Group

Work placements are an important part of maintaining and developing the working-life connections of educational institutions’ teaching and guidance staff. For Elina, the key goal of the placement was to update her own expertise so that she can guide students even better. The practical experience gained during the week will bring valuable insights back to Riveria, where they can be used both in student guidance and in course content.

Based on Elina’s experiences, cooperation between Ouneva Group and Riveria works well and offers students genuine opportunities to learn in working life. She considers it especially valuable that internships are paid and that many students have later found employment within the Group. The feedback received from students about Jotwire has also been positive. Riveria is pleased with the cooperation, and hopes that the dialogue will continue actively in the future by listening to and developing the needs of both parties.
